Sometimes home buyers become a target for wire fraudsters.

By following some simple steps you can help avoid being misguided into being duped.

  • After receiving your wiring instructions from your title company, call the title company and verify the information on the wiring instructions by requesting that they read it back to you.
  • The reason for taking this precaution is because of a recent and sophisticated phishing scam. Fraudsters have been known to send a deceptive email which appears to be legitimately coming from the title company which contains false wiring instructions.
  • Fraudsters are hoping that you won’t personally verify this information, and that you will simply wire your hard-earned money to them.
