As President and CEO of GTE Financial, Brian’s approach to leadership is all about serving others and ensuring that people always come first. With the support and guidance of a seasoned Board of Directors and an invaluable Executive Management Team, Brian is focused on maximizing return and value to the GTE membership and local community – the people we exist to serve. Through elevating the employee experience, members gain a caring financial advocate that ensures they earn more, save more and live better. Additionally, GTE is focused on providing innovation through a service lens, ensuring the credit union stays relevant within an ever-changing industry permeated by new technology and sophisticated services.

Prior to joining GTE, Brian worked at Grow Financial Federal Credit Union where he served as the Chief Lending and Operations Officer. He has been in the financial services industry for over 20 years, holding senior management positions at some of the nation’s most preeminent banks and credit unions. Brian brings a diverse background in commercial and consumer banking, collections, operations, retail strategy, process improvement, investment and risk portfolio management, organizational branding and troubled business restructuring.

Brian holds a B.S. in Marketing from Wright State University, as well as an M.A. in Business and Administration from Saint Leo University. He has also graduated from the RMA School of Commercial Underwriting and Portfolio Management, and has received his accreditation with Six Sigma as a master black belt.

Currently, Brian serves on the Tampa and Hillsborough Economic Development Task Force as Committee Member and sits on the board of the Boys and Girls Club as Corporate Board Member.

Brad is a seasoned credit union executive with over 22 years experience in credit union administrative finances and general management. Brad joined GTE Financial in 1991 as the Director of Accounting. He later served as Vice President of Finance and Vice President of Member Services.

As Chief Financial Officer, Brad oversees the credit union’s accounting, budgeting, asset liability management, and investment and cash management activities. He is also the President of Credit Union Insurance Services, GTE Financial’s CUSO, and the Brokerage Division.

Prior to joining GTE, Brad worked for Texaco/Star Enterprises (a multibillion dollar joint venture between Texaco and Saudi Aramco which included oil exploration and drilling, refineries and retail distribution) as the Assistant Controller for the Florida region.

A 1985 graduate of the University of South Florida, Brad earned his B.A. in Management Information Systems and Accounting. His credit union and community involvements include serving on the Board of the Tampa Chapter of Credit Unions and GTE Financial’s Charitable Foundation, and is a graduate of Leadership Tampa class.

Chad Burney is the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of GTE Financial. He is a highly accomplished, award-winning, information technology leader who has had repeated success leading and directing technology and business operations for over 15 years. He offers a unique blend of executive acumen, effective team building, and IT solutions development credited with strong ROI and operational improvement. He has built a responsive Information Technology department that consistently delivers results by aligning technology initiatives with business goals, substantial improvement to service delivery, standardization, and business/system performance.

Chad was also responsible for the implementation of a key virtualization project that gained national recognition after being selected for CIO Magazine’s top 100 CIO awards of 2009. He was also recognized as one of the Top 25 CTO’s in 2010 by IDG’s InfoWorld which honors senior information technology executives nationwide who demonstrated leadership within their companies and in the greater IT community.

Almost as significant as his industry awards, he is locally involved with the community through volunteerism at All Children’s Hospital and The Boys & Girls Club of Tampa Bay. He’s a leader with inventive ideas and a sincere desire to enhance the credit union industry through technology and goodwill.

Chad holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Syracuse University, an M.S. in Management Science from the State University of New York, and an M.B.A in Technology Management from the State University of New York. In addition, he is a certified Master Oracle Database Administrator.

As Senior Vice President, Member Sales and Service, Scott is directly responsible for the planning and vision of GTE’s 22 Community Financial Centers, Member Care Call Center, Investments and Insurance Groups, and oversight of GTE’s Student Powered Strategy in support of GTE’s 240,000 members and 500 employees. Collectively, this group represents over 60% of the operations and revenue generating activities for GTE.

Previously Scott served as the Wing Commander, Chief Executive Officer, 6th Air Mobility Wing, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida where he was responsible for more than $2.8 billion in base property and capital assets, controlling an annual budget in excess of $249 million in support of MacDill’s community of 80,000 members. During his 32 years of military service, he commanded at the squadron and group levels both in garrison and while deployed, and served as a command pilot with more than 3,000 flight hours in transport aircraft.

Scott has a B.S. in Management from the United States Air Force Academy and four Master of Arts degrees: Management, Military Operations and Science, School of Advanced Air and Space Studies as well as National Security Strategy. He also holds a Masters Certificate in Lean Six Sigma from Villanova University.

He brings to the GTE executive team a demonstrated record of performance at the absolute highest levels of leadership, responsible for the GTE member experience and evolution as well as product development and return to member.

Dona Svehla served as GTE’s vice president Fraud/BSA and Member Resolution before being promoted to SVP and CLO. She has more than 20 years of experience in lending, loss prevention, and collections. She began her career in 1995 with Alliant Credit Union in Chicago, Illinois, where she established the financial institution’s fraud department and designed and implemented enhancements to their collection platform.

In 2007, Svehla brought her expertise and leadership skills to Grow Financial where she held the position of Senior Vice President of Retail, Lending and Loss Prevention, which won her the Credit Union Times Trailblazer Award - Lending Officer of the Year in 2013.

Svehla earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Behavioral Sciences from National Louis University in Chicago. She also received a Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Saint Leo University. Svehla is a credit union activist, holding several board positions such as recently serving on the CUNA Lending Council as an executive committee member.

 

Board of Directors

Comprised of volunteers elected by the membership of the credit union annually, the Board of Directors oversees and governs the credit union.

Since 1994, Rick Hagan has served as a Board Director, 1st Vice Chairman, 2nd Vice Chairman, Chairman of the Asset Policy Committee and as a Supervisory Committee member.

 

Prior to joining GTE Financial, Mr. Hagan served as Chairman of the Board and Board Director of Suncoast Federal Credit Union. He is currently a principal stockholder and Board Director of Ident-A-Kid Services of America, Inc., and has been employed there since 2001. He previously held various financial management positions with General Electric and Lockheed Martin. Mr. Hagan graduated from the University of South Florida in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Mr. Hagan is currently the Board Chairman and Chairman of the Executive Committee.

Art is a native of Tampa, Florida. He graduated from Hillsborough High School and the University of South Florida, where he earned his degree in mechanical engineering. He is currently the president of Tampa Sweethearts Cigar Company located in historic Ybor City. He is the grandson of the late Arturo Fuente who began hand rolling cigars in Tampa 100 years ago. Today, the Fuente brand cigars are one of the most sought after cigars in the world.

Art spent over 18 years at the Pinellas plant with General Electric and Lockheed Martin Corporation in the engineering and manufacturing areas as an engineer and as a manager. He is a past recipient of the prestigious Lockheed Martin’s NOVA award for his innovative leadership and creative design contributions in the field of engineering. He is also one of 38 individuals who have been honored by AVS, a science and technology international Society, with the AVS Honorary Membership Award.

Over the years Art has been involved with credit unions as a Director and as Vice President. During the past 10 years he has been actively involved as a member of the Supervisory committee for GTE Financial. He is also currently a board member of Tampa Bay & Company and a member of the Rotary Club of Tampa. Art has served as Chair of the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce in 2010 and is currently on the board of directors.

Art was selected by the Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc. as the 2010 Hispanic Man of the Year for his significant contributions to the success of our community.

Mr. Fuente and his wife Martha have been married for over 38 years. Their daughter Kristin graduated with two M.A. degrees from the College of Business at the University of South Florida. She is currently Vice President of Tampa Sweethearts Cigar Company and Past-President of the Ybor City Rotary Club.

Ms. Jurgenson retired from Verizon Communications (formerly GTE Florida) with 30 years in the Human Resources department. Ms. Jurgenson currently works at Tampa General Hospital within the Volunteer Services Department and serves on the FADVS and Suncoast Chapter boards for volunteer services.

A credit union member since 1972, she served on the GTE Supervisory Committee from 1996 through 2001 (as Chairman from 1998 – 2001) and is a past trustee and Chairman of the GTE Financial Charitable Foundation. She has been a Board member since 2001, serving on various committees and is currently a member of the Executive Committee.

Mr. Beauchamp retired after 31 years of service at GTE of Florida, now Verizon Communications. Mr. Beauchamp currently owns Crystal Telecom, Inc. A credit union member since 1975, he joined the Supervisory Committee in 1985. As a Director, Mr. Beauchamp has served on the Policy Review, Group Affiliation, and Budget Committee, as well as acted as Chairman of the GTE Financial Charitable Foundation, Technology Committee, and Chairman of the Board. He currently is on the Executive Committee and serves as Board Secretary.

Mr. DuBose is currently an Administrator with the District School Board of Pasco County. He was an employee of GTE Florida for 12 years and has been a credit union member since 1983. His work with GTE Financial began in 1985 when he was appointed to the Supervisory Committee. Mr. DuBose has been a Board Member since 1990.

Mr. Hines is currently the Board Chairman and Chairman of the Executive Committee. He was a member of the GTE Financial Supervisory Committee from 1996 to 2000, and from 2003 to 2005. He has served on the GTE Financial Board of Directors since 2005 and previously served as First Vice Chairman and Secretary/Treasurer. Mr. Hines is a resident of St. Petersburg and a lawyer in downtown St. Petersburg, where he concentrates his practice in real estate, corporate and finance law. In addition to his law practice and work for the credit union, Mr. Hines serves on the Board of Trustees for Trinity College of Florida, Inc., and is a past Treasurer and Board Member of the Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Shaine Mobley became a member of the Supervisory Committee in 2010 and was voted to the Board of Directors in 2015. Mrs. Mobley is a lifetime resident of St. Petersburg where she is the current Controller and Treasurer of Derby Lane. She was previously a partner in the CPA firm of Wells, Houser & Schatzel, P.A. She received her B.A. and M.A. from the University of South Florida. In addition to her work for the credit union and raising a family, Mrs. Mobley serves as the Treasurer, Board Member and a Mentor for the Academy of Finance at Northeast High School and is a past Treasurer and Board Member of the Shore Acres Elementary Parent Teacher Association.

Employed with GTE of Florida, now Verizon Communications, since 1997, Mr. Pinkstaff is currently a Central Office Technician. He has been a member of GTE Financial since 1997 and served on the GTE Supervisory Committee for ten years. He is currently a Board Director.

A Verizon Communications (formerly GTE Florida) employee since 1973, Ms. Thompson is currently a Supervisor in the Business Response Center. A credit union member since 1973, she joined the Supervisory Committee in 1990, serving as Chairperson from 1991 to 1996. Ms. Thompson is a member of the Board of Directors where she presently serves as Chairperson of the Policy Committee. She also serves on several other committees.

Rose-Marie Bass retired from Verizon Communications (GTE Florida), where she held leadership positions for 34 years. Mrs. Bass was appointed to the GTE FCU Supervisory Committee in 1980 and became a director in 1983. She served as Chairman of the Board from 1995 to 1998 and on the Technology, Asset Liability and the Sales & Service/Operations committee.

After serving on the Board for 33 years, Mrs. Bass was appointed as a Director Emeritus in March 2013. As a Director Emeritus, she presently serves on the Home Loan Alliance Board and volunteers in other local community endeavors.

Before Doris and her husband Bob moved to Florida in 1989, she was a native of Washington, D.C., and began her business career with the American Automobile Association (AAA) in 1969 as a Travel Agent and was progressively promoted to positions of greater responsibility with AAA. She retired in 2002 as Senior Vice President of Membership.

Throughout her career Doris was active in a number of professional travel, purchasing, distribution and membership organizations and continues to maintain certification as a Purchasing Manager. She was elected to the Board of Directors of GTE Financial in 2012. Prior to that she served on the Supervisory Committee for ten years and was the Chairperson 2009 through 2011.

Supervisory Committee

Chosen by the Board of Directors, our Supervisory Committee volunteers are also GTE members whose primary responsibility is ensuring the credit union’s financial records and operations are in order.

Mr. White is currently a member of the Supervisory Committee. He has been a member of the Committee since 2012. Mr. White is a resident of Dunedin and is a Certified Public Accountant with the Tampa/Clearwater firm of CBIZ MHM, LLC, where he concentrates in all areas of taxation, as well as small business accounting and consulting.

Jane Castor Bio 2016

Andrew Fussner joined the Supervisory Committee in 2014. Mr. Fussner resides in Seminole and is an attorney for the American Heart Association, where he serves as Vice President of Estate Settlement and oversees all bequest administration for the AHA nationwide. He holds a law degree, a Bachelor of Science in accounting, and a Bachelor of Arts in political science, all from the University of Florida.

Gary Montemurro has been a GTE Financial member since 2004 and was appointed to the Supervisory Committee in 2012. He is a Certified Public Accountant and has been employed by Verizon Communications since 1999. Gary has over 20 years of experience in the Accounting & Finance field and is a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
