Dividends compound monthly and are paid on the last day of the month and at maturity. There are no penalties for monthly dividend withdrawals. What is a Share Certificate?

A share certificate is a certificate of deposit issued by a credit union. It represents a deposit that is made for a certain period of time (term) that earns specified dividends over that period.

How do I open a Share Certificate as an existing member?

What is a “Step Up” Share Certificate?

A “Step Up” Certificate is a Certificate where you can utilize a one-time rate increase throughout the life of the Certificate. This one-time rate increase can be utilized after the Certificate has been opened for a minimum of 6 months. 

What is an IRA Share Certificate?

An IRA Share Certificate is a timed deposit held within an Individual Retirement Account. 

What happens when my Share Certificate matures?

Thirty days prior to your maturity date, a letter will be mailed to you with your options. You can choose to close the Share Certificate or renew the Share Certificate at the prevailing rate. 

What is the early withdrawal penalty for a Share Certificate?

  • No early withdrawals may be made during the first 60 days from opening the Share Certificate.
  • Early withdrawals will be penalized anywhere from 90 to 180 days of earned dividends. Please review your Certificate disclosure for more details. 

What is the early withdrawal penalty for IRA Share Certificates?

There are no penalties for monthly dividend withdrawals. Early withdrawal penalties will apply if the certificate is closed before the maturity date. You can withdraw up to 10% of the principal plus dividends one time per year (20% of the current balance if over 59 1/2 years old) with no early withdrawal penalty on IRA certificates. Any monthly withdrawals or transfers reduce earnings.
