Overdraft Protection
Overdraft Protection is a convenient way to move your money to cover occasional overdrafts. Let’s say you are using your Debit Card to pay for gas, but you didn’t realize your checking account was running low. With Overdraft Protection, instead of being declined, available money in an eligible linked account will automatically transfer to your checking account. Now that’s Instantly Easy! Simply sign up for this service and select the account(s) you’d like to use.
To add one of your accounts as Overdraft Protection*:
- Complete the ‘Overdraft Protection’ form found in GTE Online Banking
- Call us at 813.871.2690 or 888.871.2690
- Visit a Community Financial Center
Please refer to the Account Disclosure and Member Schedule of Current Charges for a more thorough explanation of when an overdraft occurs and when a fee may be assessed for overdrawing your account. GTE Financial will pay overdrafts at our discretion; there is no guarantee of payment. If an overdraft is not authorized, your transaction will be denied and may be subject to a Non-Sufficient Funds Fee, which will be assessed to the account that goes negative. Federally Insured by NCUA.
Account balance alert
When your balance is getting low, you may want to avoid an overdraft. Or, maybe you want an alert when you’ve reached a certain savings goal! You can set up a custom Account Balance Notification within Online Banking.
This is a free service that will help you have more control over your money.
Under ‘Alerts and Subscriptions’ in the main navigation, click on ‘Notifications’
Then, click ‘Add New Account Balance Notification’ and then follow the requested steps.
Courtesy pay
Life happens. We understand that members may sometimes need access to funds beyond what’s currently available in their account. With your GTE checking, eligible members are automatically enrolled in Courtesy Pay for check and Automated Clearing House (ACH) transactions. Courtesy Pay essentially allows you to overdraw your checking account, up to an approved amount. This service is totally optional and is not a loan; it is a benefit meant to be used as a safeguard for rare occasions.
For example, in a medical emergency, you may not have enough money in your checking to cover payment. With Courtesy Pay, GTE will review and may pay your transaction up to an approved limit, for a small fee of $35.00 per covered transaction.
The full amount of the overdraft balance, plus related fees, will be due immediately and cannot exceed 14 days after the date of the occurrence. Members can also sign up to have this benefit applied to ATM and Debit Card transactions. There is no fee to enroll, and you can opt-out at any time. We also recommend setting up Overdraft Protection to enable automatic transfers from additional accounts to your checking as a first safety net to help avoid transaction declines or unnecessary charges.
To enroll in Courtesy Pay for ATM and Debit Card Transactions, the member must*:
- Complete the ‘Overdraft Options’ form found in GTE Online Banking
- Mail-in the Courtesy Pay Form
All GTE checking accounts are eligible for Courtesy Pay except for the Go Further account.

The full amount of the overdraft balance, plus related fees, will be due immediately and cannot be overdrawn more than 5 days after the date of the occurrence to avoid a Negative Balance Fee.
